April 7, 2000 is Women in Science
Day
AWISCO will
hold its Women in Science Day on Friday, April 7 at the Ohio State
University. Some 350 girls in 7th - 9th grades are expected to
attend. The main event this year is "MIZ WIZARD Science Secrets" a
1.5 hour presentation by historian Jane Curry, including audiovisual
representations of women scientists over the centuries. This
presentation will follow the lunch provided to all participants at
the Ohio Union West Ballroom at 12 noon.
Please
consider presenting a science workshop, preferably an interactive workshop,
for the girls. The times for the workshops are:
9:00
am: 1st workshop
10:30
am: 2nd workshop
Suggested
activities include demonstrations, observations using equipment,
tours, etc. Hands-on experiences are best and the girls appreciate
something to take home to remind them of the experience. The number
of girls in each workshop is determined by the presenter. The girls
expect to go to your office or lab, if you are on campus. However,
if you can bring your equipment or demo to the Ohio Union we can
provide a room for you to present it.
Please let us know
if you are able to present or can volunteer to assist
escorting, giving directions, or otherwise. Please contact:
