Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend Women in Science Day?

Teachers select girls in grades 6-8 who excel in math and science. Only pre-registered students can attend. To register go to the registration page.

How many workshops will I go to? How long will they be?

Every student will be assigned to a morning workshop and an afternoon workshop. Workshops last 1 to 2 hours. At the end of the morning workshop, students return to the Drake Center for lunch. At the end of the afternoon workshop students must return to the Drake for evaluations.

Will I get the workshops I requested?

It is likely. In 2007, 72% of students were assigned 2 of the 4 workshops they requested. About 27% of students received 1 of the 4 workshops they requested and less than 1% received none of the workshops they requested. No guarantees are given and the program is subject to change.

What should I wear? What should I bring?

Dress comfortably, in layers, for the weather. You will be walking extensively between the campus buildings. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a #2 pencil and a pen. Do not bring expensive items. Bring an umbrella if rain is expected.

Is lunch provided?

A pizza lunch will be provided to all participants. Tables for 10 will be reserved for schools for the entire day at the Main Lounge of the Drake Center.

Doors open at 7:30 am. Students must arrive by 8:15 am to be able to attend morning workshops

Where can we park?

Buses should discharge passengers in front of the Drake Center (1849 Cannon Drive). Buses may park at no charge on the West Campus or at the Schottenstein Center.School or private vehicles may park in any surface lot on campus. Parking passes, good for all day parking, are available prepaid for $3.00. The pass allows parking in any A, B, or C spot, not otherwise designated. The nearest surface lots are on the West side of the stadium and on the South side of Lincoln Tower. After parking, you may walk south to the overhead walk bridge that empties onto the Drake Union patio.
